The Crown - Designed by Delamar Graduate, Cate Hall
Netflix gave fans an all new behind-the-scenes video from The Crown season 3, and Olivia Colman’s transformation. Many a Delamar graduate worked tirelessly behind the scenes on this huge production. In the video below, we are delighted to see our graduate Cate Hall talking about her work on this series, commanding one of the top designing jobs in the hair and makeup industry. Cate hired many Delamar graduates and none other than Advanced Hair tutor, Jo Nielsen to work on her main team, looking after the principal actors.
We got a look at Olivia Coleman’s conversion into the long-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth, for the third and fourth seasons of the hit show. The short video includes everything from her handmade wardrobe to her hair and makeup processes. It’s so impressive, that even her co-stars were in awe.
“The first time I saw Olivia in her wig it was magical, it was like, ‘Oh my god, the queen is in the room,’” said Helena Bonham Carter.
“For Olivia, it feels like the most valuable is to have a lovely time in hair and makeup and then inhabit the queen once the process is over,” said Cate Hall.
In case you missed it, Colman is taking over Claire Foy’s role as Queen Elizabeth II for the Netflix show alongside Tobias Menzies, aka the new Prince Philip, and Bonham Carter as the new, rebellious Princess Margaret.
The new season is set between 1964 and 1977, and by the looks of the teaser trailer, it might just be the most turbulent yet.
