In this course, you will learn all about afro and curly hair textures from blow drying to twists. This skill set is rightly becoming an essential requirement in film, TV fashion and theatre. It’s crucial that all hair artists understand how to style afro and textured hair types. Even for Makeup Artists who can do basic hairstyling, Afro hairstyling skills are a must.

The building blocks of industry employment
The Afro & Curly Textured Hair course
No previous experience of hairdressing is necessary because, when you join the course here at Delamar Academy, all the basic skills are taught from the very first day.
The course provides an intensive grounding in Afro and curly textured hairdressing skills you will need for working as a stylist in the media industry. At the end of the course you will have learnt:
Introduction to Afro and Multi-textured Hair (hair types, curl types, hair and scalp analysis)
Consultations
Products (what to use, when to use and how to use)
Tools (combs, brushes, heat styling tools)
Styling techniques for type 3 and 4 hair (Curly and Kinky Coiled)
Blow outs, straightening, bantu knots, extensions, braiding and many more techniques
Maintenance and aftercare
By the end of the end of the Afro & Curly Textured Hair course, students will:
Possess the practical skills to confidently work with afro & curly hair textures
Know how to build a hair kit that caters for afro & curly hair textures
Apply for work in the media industry that requires a course in Afro & Curly Textured Hair
A full-time course for a fulfilling career
Classes run 10:00am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday, in the Academy
All equipment, materials and tools are included in the course fee. Students do not need to bring anything other than a notepad and pen
Classes sizes are small - no more than 12 students per class to create a strong tutor to student ratio
Termly tutorials with a tutor and Academy Principal are held with each student to provide support, advice and learn about each individual student’s goals
We hold guest masterclasses and industry talks throughout the year featuring top industry experts and artists

Tuition is practical and hands-on, with a tutor demo in the morning, followed by practical sessions for the rest of the day, in which students learn how to handle specialist equipment, tools and materials
