“I have worked as Managing Director of Delamar Academy for over 12 years now and strive to provide a fantastic learning experience with the best tutors and work opportunities possible for our students. I love working with the students, helping to build up their confidence and ultimately, launching them into the industry. Having trained at Delamar myself in 1996, and worked on TV dramas and feature films for 10 years, I can remember how daunting it was to make the jump from classroom to film set, and to work as a freelancer in a competitive industry. I find it very rewarding to nurture and guide our graduates on their career paths.”
Leda graduated from the University of Exeter with a BA Hons degree in English Literature. As an avid film buff and book lover, Leda’s writing career changed after studying the Delamar Academy Complete Make-up Artist course, founded by her mother, Penny Delamar. Leda worked as a make-up artist in the film and TV industry for over 10 years before taking over the school as Managing Director. Leda is passionately concerned with the careers of our graduates, overall integrity of the school and maintaining that Delamar provides the best course and tutors in the industry.
“After joining the Delamar team in the summer of 2014, I immediately felt welcomed by all the staff, students and tutors. Coupled with being on site in the Ealing Studios, no day is the same here at the Academy. There is always a fantastic energy and excitement from everyone. Having come from a make-up background myself I instantly warmed to Academy life.
A typical day would start with welcoming all the students and tutors ready for a day’s teaching. I manage daily enquiries and interviews, taking prospective students around the Academy for tours.”
As Academy Manager, for most students Monika will be your first point of contact at Delamar. Monika assists Leda with the smooth running of the courses, agency and general Academy business. A fountain of Delamar knowledge, for queries on anything from course comparisons, career options, visa applications, accommodation, office management and more, Monika is the go-to girl!
“I am really excited to have joined the Delamar Team. I have an extensive legal background both in the city and in house so I am enjoying the challenge of working somewhere totally different. I have joined Delamar to look after their policies and projects plus some day to day admin and invoicing. Legal graduate turned beauty industry professional, Emma has worked in marketing for 5 years, specialising in digital and creative content. As a freelance make-up artist herself and beauty product obsessive, Emma started working in the beauty industry to look after digital marketing at retailer, Space NK, across their entire brand catalogue for nearly 3 years, before becoming freelance. Emma prides herself on pushing forward the marketing efforts for Delamar, opening doors for students and developing relationships between the school and top industry players such as luxury brands, photographers and agencies.
“After working in music management for several years, managing bands and DJ’s I moved in a completely different direction and worked in child protection for seven years whilst my children were younger. I previously worked at other make-up schools before I joined Delamar, in the summer of 2018. I work part time, 3 days per week here dealing with lots of administration and scheduling for the students. It’s a very busy environment with a great team. I also work for a photographer part time so my week is very varied.”
Marcia is our Academic Administrator, a job that includes being responsible for scheduling the course content, university paperwork, assessment notes, supporting Monika and Kate with a hands-on approach to ordering, invoicing and other financial tasks. Known for her great style, Marcia is a practical problem solver in the Academy, assisting our tutors and students with their wide array of needs.
“Since graduating from Delamar a while ago now, I couldn’t help but stay involved with the Academy. Delamar has given me so many opportunities in the industry, so it has been a wonderful experience to be welcomed back as a freelance member of the team. When I get a break between jobs in the film and TV industry, I come here to support the tutors. The Delamar Family have continued to be so supportive of my career, and I enjoy coming back to help out whenever I can.
Beauty and fashion lover turned top hair and make-up industry professional, Sara graduated over 4 years ago. Sara’s beginnings were in Dublin where she worked for various beauty brands, acquiring product knowledge and make-up experience before making the decision to come to Delamar and train on the Advanced Complete Make-up Artist Course and then the Advanced Hair course. As a regular member of the team here, Sara comes in to assist the tutors with her high level of skill and experience, which the students greatly appreciate. Students and staff alike are very fond of Sara’s calming energy and strong attention to detail.
