Awards season is underway! We were not surprised by any of the nominations for the BAFTA’s, some incredible work has been done on these recent releases:

  1. Darkest Hour

During the early days of World War II, the fate of Western Europe hangs on the newly-appointed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who must decide whether to negotiate with Hitler, or fight on against incredible odds. Starring Gary Oldman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Ben Mendleson and Lily James.

We had 3 Delamar graduates who worked on this are Rosie Sinfield (you can read all about Rosie’s journey here), Naomi Tolan and Ella Burton, plus two Delamar tutors Laura Solari and Anita Burger.

The make-up artists who might pick up this award are:

Based on the New York Times bestseller, Wonder tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters fifth grade, attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time.

Leda, our Course Director has watched this film and commented:

“Beautifully designed and applied make-up with a heartbreaking performance by Jacob Tremblay.”

4. Victoria & Abdul

The make-up artist up for this award is Daniel Phillips who was the Make-up Designer.

This make-up is classic Victorian period on Judi Dench and a large cast of actors in full period costume and hair. The trailer nicely references a powder application with an old fashioned powder puff. We like this moment!

5. I, Tonya

Competitive ice skater Tonya Harding rises amongst the ranks at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, but her future in the activity is thrown into doubt when her ex-husband intervenes.

BAFTA winning Delamar tutor, Catherine Scoble has sung this film’s praises, especially the hair and make-up work!  The make-up artists who might win this award are:

  • Deborah La Mia Denaver – Make-up department head
