We were delighted to attend yet another fantastic IMATS at Kensington Olympia. What better way to spend your weekend than at the world’s largest make-up trade show – IMATS! We can never resist a make-up gathering of any kind. IMATS is a must go-to for any make-up artist and enthusiast. The 3 day event is a creative extravaganza of live demonstrations, talks, vendors, show only discounts, talent, showcases, freebies, competitions and our absolute make-up idols!
A highlight for us would definitely be seeing the incredibly talented BGFX team give a panel talk on the make-up in Game of Thrones. Barrie Gower was the Prosthetics Designer on the series for the past 5 years and he, his wife Sarah Gower, and talented team created some of the most iconic fantasy characters in television history.

Listening to the panel talk in such detail about their work was amazing, they made us think of things we often overlook or forget, such as the vast volume of pieces needed, the size of the prosthetic department, the 50 night shoots, the 8 hour application process for the ‘children of the forest’ and much more.
Some of our favourite looks from the talk. So many artists work as a team to achieve this, with multiple pieces needed across shoot days.
We are so proud that many of our graduates have been part of the GoT team over its 10 year epic history. This series has certainly raised the bar when it comes to SFX make-up, and the legacy it will leave behind leading to new productions is invaluable.
With so many demos and talks going on it’s hard to comment on them all, needless to say they have all set a little fire in us inspiring us to push our make-up skills even further.
Finally, as always our students and graduates did us proud working on a range of different stores and demos including Make-up Artist Magazine and PAM to name a few. Job well done!

So.. just like after Christmas day – we can’t believe we have to wait a whole entire year for IMATS to return to London! (anyone fancy getting us tickets to IMATS Toronto, please?)
