When it comes to our make-up artist idols you don’t get much bigger than Tina Earnshaw! This week the legendary make-up artist came to the Academy to discuss her career and share her top of the range make-up and brushes.
Listening to Tina talk about her journey as a make-up artist was truly inspiring, from starting out on a counter for Max Factor, then building up her training at the BBC and ultimately working on Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters! Tina’s real break through with Hollywood came when Kate Winslet recommended her for the Head of Department on Titanic, after which Tina and her team were nominated for an Academy Award and Bafta!
Subsequently, spending many years in the US working on films such as Spider Man 2 and 3 and Dark Water, Tina returned to the UK where she was Make-up Designer for Mama Mia, Prometheus, Exodus: Gods and Kings and The Martian to name a few! A full list can be seen on her IMDB .
It was so welcoming to hear how much Tina values a strong team and she gave vital hints and tips on what makes a great trainee.
For now Tina is taking a well-earned break from film sets and is focusing her attention on her make-up and brush line. The brush range is made from the finest sable, goats’ hair and Japanese nylon. It was a real delight to listen to Tina and also to treat ourselves to a couple of brushes to use and keep as a motivational keepsake in our kits!
