The end of the year is upon us! 2018 has been a big one for Delamar Graduates. We were lucky to have so many graduates leave the Academy to start their careers on the biggest film productions, fashion shoots and theatre shows in the UK.
We go above and beyond any transactional relationship with our students. Once the courses finish, the real fun begins! We provide remarkable opportunities to these graduates, old and new. The Delamar Academy reputation is second to none, developed through the integrity of our courses and then the relationships we have with the top people in the industry.
The list below is a great read for current students, graduates, or anyone considering a course here. This is what happens after you leave Delamar…
Film & TV:
Where to begin? Delamar has consistently been the main institution feeding the film and TV industry for over 32 years. This year has seen a flurry of productions needing so many make-up artists.
The latest Black Mirror Series has been designed by BAFTA winning Delamar tutor and graduate, Catherine Scoble. The rest of Catherine’s team – Tarah Golding, Holly Edwards and Lisa Cartlidge are also Delamar Graduates. We have enjoyed hearing about their work on this futuristic Netflix smash.
Graduate Stacey Holman has been working on Peaky Blinders and doing dailies for the principal cast on The Crown, which is being designed by Delamar graduate Cate Hall. The Crown is the biggest budget Netflix drama series ever made, and depicts the life of our royal family. Of all the exciting dramas to work on, this is one of the finest dramas in production at the moment. We have had many Delamar graduates work on The Crown, and look forward to seeing the new series!
Turn-up Charlie starring Idris Elba, is a new series in production. Our 2017 graduate Manon Orance has also been doing work experience on it.
Holly Edwards has been in Monaco working on Rivera, series 2. This is a glamorous location change from Holly’s work in the Jungle for Our Girl, starring Michelle Keegan, filmed last year.
We had many recent graduates working on Maleficent 2, starring Angelina Jolie. The following graduates are mostly from our 1 year course, including but not limited to: Nastassia Caripi, Callista Thomas, Lucy Oswald, Olivia Watts, Jodie Llewellen, Rebecca Calver, Chloe Jackson, Inez Clark, and Claudia Mancini. Some of these graduates worked in prosthetics, and others worked in the crowd room.
Lucy Oswald graduated only last year, but she has already racked up an impressive number of films and TV series. In the past 3 months Lucy has worked on Britannia, Dumbo re-shoots, as a main-team trainee on “Brexit” with Delamar tutor Angie Mudge and graduate Debbie Ormond, as well as several days on Maleficent.
Tutor and Delamar Graduate, Brian Kinney has taken 4 recent grads onto Artemis Fowl, a Kenneth Branagh Disney Film with many goblins and elves. Here you can see Brian with Joanna Masiewicz, Nadja Scalzi and Mollie Merrifield who graduated last summer on the 1 Cert HE Professional Make-up Design Course and Tytti Valerie who graduated from Advanced Prosthetics earlier this year! Well done team Delamar!
Lily Sumner has been the main team trainee on Hollywood film, Angel Has Fallen – featuring Morgan Freeman, Gerard Butler and Jada Pinkett Smith. A huge A list line-up that Lily will have personally worked with, this is Lily’s second time being Lynda Armstrong’s trainee! Currently Lily is putting a bald cap on Roger Allen 6 days a week for West End show The Modern Soprano.
Jodie Llewellyn graduated this summer and has already worked with Delamar Tutor Sian Miller on a production called Sulphur and White. We cannot mention the name of Jodie’s current job, but she is now main team trainee on an A list feature film. This came as a result of working with Sian.
Rocketman is a huge feature film out in 2019, about the life of Elton John. Tutor Laura Solari was leading hair and make-up for the crowd department with fellow Delamar tutor, Sian Miller. They had an absolute blast working together. Wendy Topping did daily work, and we had graduates Bethany Fletcher and Inez Clarke working as trainees.
Sorcha Morgan who graduated this summer on the Complete Make-up artist course, and she got straight to work on a HBO series called Watchmen, ITV series Endeavour, National Lottery for a whole month and dailies on “Take Me Out”.
Recent graduate from our 1 year course, Naomi Pink, has been working on the second series of Killing Eve, designed by Delamar Tutor, Lucy Cain. This BBC black humour thriller has been a huge hit on screens. The second series has now wrapped, we cannot wait to watch it!
Whilst still training here, many students worked on a film production called Blinded By The Light, directed by award winning Gurinder Chadha. Many scenes were filmed primarily here at Ealing Studios, so we were able to send students on set. Chloe Jackson, Inez Clark and Naomi Pink were among the students who worked on this film.
The X Factor is designed by Delamar tutor Sarah Exley, who has taken several Delamar graduates onto her team: Bella Constanzo, Sophie Shoob, Emily Wilcox and Andrew Denton – a recent addition to the live shows. This is such a fantastic opportunity for our graduates who go on to make many contacts in the music industry from shows like X factor.
Fashion & Commercial
The fashion industry coupled with the advertising world is definitely the most glamorous area of the make-up industry. This is what people think of when they imagine make-up artists, working on fashion shows, photo shoots and with musicians. This is the most competitive arena to work in!
Jo Frost is a leading fashion make-up artist who has spent much of this year working with musician, Jess Glynne, recently travelling to Mexico and Rio for some video shoots. Jo has also worked o conceptual beauty stories for French Elle, Vogue Ukraine, Telegraph Luxury and several Wonderland covers. Not much! Just this weekend, Jo worked on Jess Glynne’s make-up for her Pride performance, and joined her for a party on stage with Nile Rodgers, and the rest of the crew. Recently, Jo has worked with Ellie Golding for her new music video. Jo’s career is complete #goals.
Kitty Noofah is a Delamar Graduate who continues to succeed and push herself in the creative fashion world. Working on Thai celebrity, Jaokhun Wattanasin, Kitty has been providing grooming for a water advertising campaign in Thailand. Kitty led a team of Delamar graduates on her work for Notting Hill Carnival. On her recent award win, Kitty had the following to say:
“The latest news is that l won Best Artistic Makeup Artist of the year at IAA awards. This is the reason why l would love to say thank you to you all. Delamar always supports me and l never ever thank you enough. l won this award because of Delamar Academy.”

It is quite safe to say that Andrew Denton has had the most thrilling year assisting top fashion artist Andrew Gallimore. This list is quite something: Publications in Harpers Bazaar, Elle Magazine, Hunger, French Numero, Dazed, Porter, Cheryl Cole’s new music video “Love Made Me Do It”, campaigns for Ugg, Sloggi, River Island and Primark, a TV ad for Ministry of Sound. Recent graduates Cali Thomas, Nastassia Caripi, Inez Clarke and Claudia Mancini worked on a Coco & Eve commercial shoot for a breast cancer awareness video. One of the first students our founder Penny Delamar ever trained was Amanda Roberts. For the second year running, she has now won London Bridal Hair and Make-up Artist Of The Year, at the English Wedding Awards.
Theatre is a very different area of the industry, but one that provides a lot of fun, the most job security, family-like environment and routine. With the constant hands-on work, we often tell our students that theatre is the best way to develop the skillset of any make-up artist, especially when working with wigs. So many of our advanced hair graduates go on to work in the West End.
2017 1 year graduate Krystal Buckley has continued to love her time on Kinky Boots which is currently being made into a film. This award winning show closes its doors in January. Krystal will be moving into more commercial areas of the industry, to add to her one day a week at QVC, making up the glamorous presenters.
