The Bafta Craft Awards took place this week, congratulations to the team at Strictly who received the ‘Special Award’ at the ceremony. The Bafta Craft Awards is held in celebration of the best ‘behind-the-scenes’ talent in British TV. It is important that the huge amount of work that goes into the creation of these shows is given recognition.
Many Delamar tutors and graduates have worked on ‘Strictly’ which is why we thought their award deserves a special mention! Delamar tutor, Lisa Hilton, worked as Head of Hair on Strictly from 2008-2009, we spoke to Lisa about what it was like to work on the show.
‘A typical ‘night’ on the show began at 8.30am! We would meet as a team and discuss who was looking after each celebrity and dancer. After this we would look at design briefs and discuss the ‘looks’ of that particular show. The rest of the time would be spent prepping hairpieces and extensions and waiting for our artist to arrive.
Many Delamar tutors worked on Strictly including Anna Winterburn, Paul Haskell, Laura Solari and Joanne Byrne. Delamar graduates include, Lottie Brooksbank, Kirsty McQueen, Holly Edwards and many more!
The Delamar team and I designed the ‘Hollywood Hair Course’ as we saw a gap in the market for make-up artist to be able to do hair as well as make-up. There was also a need for more people to have specialised hair skills. The ‘Hollywood Hair Course’ was inspired by red carpet looks from around the world. If you wanted to work in the hair department at Strictly you would have to have strong abilities in setting hair, adding pieces and attaching hair accessories.’
