Afro Hair Course

Afro Hair

If you want to learn about styling Afro hair and curly hair textures from blowdrying to twists, this 5 day intensive course is for you. This skill set is rightly becoming an essential requirement in film, TV fashion and theatre. It’s crucial that all hair artists understand how to style Afro and textured hair types. Even for Make-up Artists who can do basic hairstyling, Afro hairstyling skills are a MUST.

Course contents

No previous experience of hairdressing is necessary because, when you join the course here at Delamar Academy, all the basic skills are taught from the very first day.

The course provides an intensive grounding in Afro hairdressing skills you will need for working as a stylist in the media business. At the end of the course you will have learnt:

  • Introduction to Afro and Multi-textured Hair (hair types, curl types, hair and scalp analysis)
  • Consultations
  • Products (what to use, when to use and how to use)
  • Tools (combs, brushes, heat styling tools)
  • Styling techniques for type 3 and 4 hair (Curly and Kinky Coiled)
  • Maintenance and aftercare

Class times

Class times are 10 am – 4 pm, Monday to Friday. This is a 5 day course.

All students work on an Afro dolly head, access to all the tools and products, needed to learn the course.

Course location

The light and airy classrooms of Delamar Academy are located within the world-famous Ealing Studios in West London. (You can learn more about Ealing Studios itself on our Get in touch page or on the Ealing Studios site itself.)

In our spacious classrooms, you will have your own personal workstation – including professional lighting and equipment. A large prosthetics workshop is based on site at Ealing Studios. Ealing Studios is home to a number of other companies that form a real media community, with visual effects, production, editing, outside broadcast, and record companies all represented. There is also a Film School, which offers a first step in studio experience for our own students when they work on graduate films.
