2017 was a strong year at Delamar Academy – we were lucky to have many top tutors in the Academy for weeks at a time! Such tutors including BAFTA winning designer Catherine Scoble who taught modules in casualty, character and period make-up in between her work designing BBC period drama, Howards End which you can read all about here.
As a make-up school we tirelessly go beyond the teaching by providing some remarkable opportunities for our graduates, old and new. Over the last 30 years, we have become a hub within the make-up industry, forging some of the best relationships with top designers. Contacts are everything! We make the effort for graduates who have learnt their skills and have a really positive attitude. Many of the jobs below we have provided by way of official recommendation from Delamar. Further opportunities are provided directly from tutors or more established graduates to newer graduates.

Film and TV
Gabor Kerekes graduated a few years ago and has now worked on stunning lead actress Olga Kuerylenko on Johnny English 3. It is not unheard of for talented make-up artists to get snapped up as personal artists to the lead actors of a film. Talent and training will take you a long way, but we always instil the importance of having a great personality to work with balancing discreteness, cleanliness and pleasant energy – some of Gabor’s strengths. Gabor has also worked on Mac Mafia, which is currently on TV.
Luisa Abel was Make-up Department Head on the war film ‘Dunkirk’, starring Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Harry Styles and Cilian Murphy.Sara Fagan and Claire Walker were trainees on an adaptation of Jessie Burton’s novel ‘The Miniaturist’. Designed by Chrissie Baker, the make-up team completed their prep work here at Delamar Academy. This aired on the BBC over Christmas,
Giorgio Galliero worked on main team of series 2 of ITV’s primetime period drama, ‘Victoria’.
Louise McCarthy was the Make-up Department Head and personal make-up artist to Anne Hathaway for the upcoming ‘Ocean’s 8’ movie, starring Cate Blanchett, Rhianna and an impressive host of A- list actors.
Stacey Holman and Bethany Fletcher worked on the critically aclaimed ‘Peaky Blinders’, set in Birmingham – this gangster series is a huge hit.
Tarah Golding has been a trainee on EastEnders, and worked on a Pavarotti documentary directed by Ron Howard. She has also been a trainee on Victorian period drama, Quacks as trainee make-up artist. We are so proud of Tarah’s journey, you can read about her first 10 months since graduating here.
Bethany Fletcher and Siobhan McGrath worked on the gripping BBC drama series, Liar. The acting and storyline received such positive press and sparked huge public interest. We were very impressed with the character make-up on Liar.
Another amazing series was Doctor Foster, starring Suranne Jones with make-up design by our own tutor Angie Mudge. Debbie Ormrod and Caroline Walker worked on the make-up for crowd. To read all about Angie’s Doctor Foster make-up work in greater detail, click here.
Sophie Coppola has been working on ‘Hard Sun’ for the BBC as a main team assistant – Under Niamh Morrison who is the designer.
Delamar Graduate and tutor, Holly Edwards spent a large chunk of 2017 working on Our Girl, which took her to Malaysia with Michelle Keegan.
Alice Percival and Bella Constanzo have had many busy weekends working on the X factor.
Well done to three of our graduates Coral Todd, Heather Schreuder and Maxine Crew, who beat hundreds of other applicants to secure a place on the Skillset Trainee Scheme – a professional scheme to place talented graduates on top jobs.

Lisa Cartlidge and Sophie Davis have been jet-set filming in Morocco with top Prosthetics Designer Matt Smith.
Julie Kendrick has wrapped-up as Designer on ‘The Boy With the Top-Knot’, filmed in Birmingham. Julie used an all – Delamar make-up department, assisted by fellow Delamar graduates Kirsty McQueen and Parmjit Barker!
Delamar tutor and BAFTA winner Catherine Scoble designed the new BBC version of the classic Edwardian period drama ‘Howards End’ – we had some graduates with current 1 year students on work experience: Lucy Oswald, Victoria Pipe, Krystal Buckley, Christina Moat, Coral Todd, Tarah Rose Golding, Alice Percival, Vicky Hughes, Anastasia Storey, Louisa Fleming, Libby Callaway, Emily Wilcox and Diandra Ferreira. Delamar graduate JoJo Dutton was Supervisor on main team and Holly Edwards also worked as a daily make-up artist on busy crowd days.
Ria Biggerstaff -Hudson worked on main team on the TV period drama ‘Guernsey’, starring Lily James, shot here at Ealing Studios and on location in Devon.
Bethany Lewis worked on main team on the latest series of Netflix hit, ‘Black Mirror’.
Parmjit Barker was main team trainee on ‘Broadchurch’ Series 3 and the last series of ‘Poldark’.
Marese Langan designed the fantastic new film of Daphne du Maurier’s classic book ‘My Cousin Rachel’, starring Rachel Weisz.
Quacks is a BBC drama series with Black Adder humour, centred around the the Victorian Medical Industry. We had several graduates working together on this: Tarah Goulding, Jojo Duttan, Sophie Coppola and Rebecca Crang.
Oscar winning graduate Trefor Proud is always in touch with us and we could not be more happy for him having worked on Catherine Zeta Jones in Cocaine Godmother biopic, aired by Lifetime. Catherine let Trefor make her look worlds apart from her usual flawless self with an uncharacteristic haggard look to play the part of Griselda Blanco. The other gorgeous man in the photo, Adam Philips was already a well-established hair dresser in his own right, and chose Delamar Academy to study beauty make-up. #DelamarFamily ! Dumbo is an exciting Disney film ( already on IMDB so we can tell you about it!) directed by Tim Burton and featuring Eva Green, Michael Keaton, Colin Farrell and Danny DeVito. Delamar graduates have reigned supreme in the crowd make-up room. To name but a few – Victoria Pipe, Julie Kendrick, Rosie Sinfield, Romaine Bowman, Kirsty McQueen, Anastasia Storey, Naomi Tolan, Krystal Buckley, Lucy Oswald, Sophie Coppola, Cliodhna Scully and Amanda Warburton.
Krystal Buckley who recently graduated this summer from the 1 year course has worked as a trainee on Mission Impossible, Johnny English 3, The Favourite and Mary Queen Of Scots. Krystal wrote about her time at Delamar shortly after graduating, you can read all about it here, how things have changed!
Hollie Williams who also recently graduated this summer from the 1 year course, has been working on Dumbo with many fellow graduates mentioned above , Johnny English 3, a BBC Drama called Killing Eve and a drama called Three Seconds with Delamar Tutor Niamh Morrison. Hollie attributes her working success to the relationship she built with Delamar hair tutors Laura Solari and Wendy Topping. A lot of our tutors kick-start Delamar graduates’ careers. Hollie has also worked on British Rockumentary about the Sex Pistols – the make-up and hair being punk will have made for a very interesting and challenging job, we are sure!
Maireade Murphy – another 1 year graduate from the summer has been working on an unreleased ITV show, a film about WW2. She is now working alongside Emma Croft again on a new and secret TV series.
Naomi Tolan is another graduate who did big things in 2017! She worked on Mission Impossible 6 with Rosie Sinfield, Dumbo,Three Seconds and Star Wars.
The BBC drama series, Strike is based on the J.K Rowling crime thriller books. We had top graduate Romaine Bowman work on this. Delamar Tutor Lucy Cain designed the make-up for the second episode.
Rebecca Crang worked as main team daily junior on ‘Hard Sun’ and ‘Three Seconds’ with Niamh Morrison. She has also been filming for 6 weeks on ‘The Souvenir’ with Siobhan Harper-Ryan who is another Delamar graduate.
Caroline Walker has been working on an HBO series after working on a BBC drama series and E4 Stage School. Caroline started the summer working on Warner Brothers feature film Justice League, working with the A list actors on this action-packed fantasy film – you can read all about it here.
Lucy Oswald, finished her course in the summer and we immediately put her forward as main-team trainee to BAFTA award winning designer and occasional Delamar tutor, Sallie Jaye. The rest has been history for Lucy! She has worked on Juliet Naked, Flowers 2, dailies on crowd for upcoming Tim Burton film Dumbo and make-up prep for a feature film starring Dame Judi Dench called Red Joan – it’s about a WW2 spy. Lucy has worked closely with Sallie and we are very excited to watch this film, Leda is a Judi Dench fan! Graduate of the Complete Make-up Artist course in 2014, Denise Stocker, has been working as a Make-up Artist on Bohemian Rhapsody – an upcoming American-English biographical drama film portraying Queen’s rise to stardom. Amanda Warburton (Delamar Graduate and tutor) is working in crowd make-up.
Sara Fagan, a graduate of the Advanced Complete Make-up Artist Course in 2016 has received her first credit as a make-up artist on a BBC 2 period Series series called 1917: Countdown To Revolution, with Delamar Tutor Jutta Russell. She has also worked on Channel 4 movie ‘The Truth’ starring Indira Varma (Game of thrones) and Luke Treadaway (Fortitude) Directed by BAFTA winner Dave Nath. Sara did hair and make up for Luke. This was filmed in gorgeous Bristol during the summer.
Fashion & Commercial
Natasha Patki personally assisted iconic fashion make-up artist, Charlotte Tilbury! This was an opportunity that she pursued during her time on the course, with whisperings of interviews and portfolio images needed with haste. We could not be more proud of Natasha – her steely grit and ambition have landed her the opportunity of a lifetime.
Krystal Buckley assisted Delamar graduate and tutor Sarah Jagger at this year’s highly popular IMATS (International Make-up Artists Trade Show). This is the big annual trade show for make-up artists and make-up enthusiasts alike. The audience for the main stage is set at 300, so we were very proud to have two Delamar graduates on the stage.
Kitty Noofah came second place at IMATS Battle of the Brushes, the prestigious competition where make-up artists fly in from all over the world to compete for the title.
Lucy Evans has worked on a Nike commercial with Alexander McQueen’s florist, the Headmasters British Hairdressing Awards, Debut Magazine with Ashley James and Charlotte de Carle, plus a week in Cannes working on hair and make-up for many industry glitterati.
Fiona Neal has continued to assist Caroline Barnes, and has worked on lots of celebrities from the ‘Made In Chelsea’ stars to singer Pixie Lott. Fiona has assisted at London Fashion week with top Delamar graduate Kitty Noofah, and worked on upcoming swimwear brand campaign. Fiona also had a #TBT pinch-me moment when doing the make-up for S Club 7’s Hannah Spearritt. If you are over the age of 25 then you know about S Club 7.
Mena Alice Pyne has been a very busy bee indeed, working on many eCommerce shoots for Urban Outfitters, she was the make-up artist on an upcoming programme directed by world-renowned choreographer and creative Parris Goebel. Mena was the head make-up artist on a music video for Rizzle Kicks directed by Xi Phi films, her team included Delamar Graduates Natasha Cole and Emma Horner. Mena has also worked on shoots for Virgin Media and a football commercial. Finally,she also worked on a fashion film called ‘Timeless’ for Central Saint Martins College, which was recently published in Teeth Magazine, online.
Vogue Make-up Artist Of The Year and Delamar grad, Namrata Soni worked on an editorial story which has been printed in Elle India magazine. Namrata has also been awarded another Vogue Make-up Award this year and opened her own make-up school in India.
Alexa Ravina did the make-up for Hugo Boss’s AW17 campaign and for a FIFA18 shoot. She has also secured bookings for wedding make-up work in Capri, Dubai, Blenheim Palace, Florence and Bali this summer. Alexa has been doing make-up for Call Of Duty on some very exciting actors (but she’s signed too many NDA’s to tell us who they are – pssht typical!), more work for FIFA on David Beckham, Rio Ferdinand and Thierry Henry, Comicon with a team of 12 assistants, weddings in Capri, Florence, St Tropez, Vegas, Bali and Dubai. Not much then Alexa!
Anja Bont – a graduate from our 22 week Advanced Complete Make-up Artist Course has been working away on many a fashion shoot, London Fashion Week for Giorgio Armani as a hair assistant backstage! Anja has done the hair and make-up on shoots for Wolf & Badger, Models1, look-books and campaigns for various designers and some editorials for very fashion-forward magazines.
Andrew Denton graduated just over a year ago from the 22 week Advanced Complete Make-up Artist course and this summer he has been booked for celebrity shoots. He has had work published in HUF, Lucy’s, Dreamingless, Flanelle and Knots. Andrew was main team trainee for Pitch Battle designed by Jo Jenkins, working on celebrities and singers. Established long-time Delamar Graduate, Jo Frost has been working in Cannes with her personal client Jess Glynne, making her look gorgeous at the Cannes Film Festival and numerous Editorials for DANSK Magazine.
Katie King has done the make-up for advertising campaigns for Clarks, Guinness and Treatwell.
We had a huge team of Delamar Graduates working at London Fashion Week on shows from Armani to smaller up-and-coming designers.Mollie Merrifield has worked on features for Hairstyle Magazine and assisted top fashion make-up artist Sonya Miro, famous for her face chart art.
Marta Bagnoli has worked on a Kuwait Airlines shoot.
Superstar graduate and top fashion make-up artist Lauren Whitworth who now lives over the pond in NYC has done the make-up for a Peter Thomas Roth ad campaign!
Recent Delamar Graduate Nadja Scalzi, whose talent and creativity really impressed the tutors while she was here last year. Nadja been immersed in Editorial work, jewellery campaigns for Italian designer Llabo, a couple of music videos for rising stars and working with fashion photographers Beatrice Capone, Cinsy Tam and Daniele Immortal Rippa. She has also done the make-up for a look-book and editorial for Vintage Troussard – a bridal designer with the photographer Alexandria Hall. Nadja has been producing clown artwork and has been commissioned to paint more!
Sara Fagan was make-up assistant on a Moonpig advert, assisting established make-up artist Ang Oxley Evans. We have seen it loads on TV! She has also done the make-up for a Lucozade advert and for promotional images for a fitness company in South Kensington.
Sophie Shoob who graduated from the 5 week fashion & beauty course has been working with Models1 on their new signings. Sophie has worked with an impressive list of celebs and media personalities already!
Joanna Masiewicz, Lottie Roberts and Mollie Merrifield worked together to create the prosthetic make-up for Rankin’s production company, The Full Service. This was shot at Rankin’s studio, and a fantastic day for all involved, fusing fashion with prosthetics – something we see becoming a big trend in 2018.
Lottie Roberts has also been assisting Sangeet Prabhaker, who you can read about her journey here. Lottie is following the career path of prosthetics make-up and she enjoyed working with Sangeet’s apprentice, Lori McGregor who with Lottie, helped prepare some exhibition work for Neil Gorton’s Prosthetics event in Birmingham this year.
Heather Ross has secured a fantastic job on the musical ‘Grease’.
Elinor Watkins is on a UK tour of ‘Funny Girl’.
Ella Van der Zwart and Abbi Richards kicked off 2017 on a world tour of Wicked the musical – countries included, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Beijing and more. Ella Ven Der Zwart and Elinor Watkins are on now Miss Saigon UK tour.
Faith Jones is working on a UK tour of ‘Dirty Dancing’.
Whilst she was still a student – Lucy Oswald became the sickness and holiday standby for West End musical ‘Wicked’. This is a huge accomplishment so early on in Lucy’s career.
Calico Heslop is now Deputy Head of Hair and Make-up on ‘Kinky Boots’.
Bella Constanzo was the Deputy Head of Wigs and Make-up for Opera, Holland Park.
Hannah Locke is now working with Delamar hair tutor, Wendy Topping, on the brilliant musical, School Of Rock.
Hollie Williams, a very recent gradate has had a work placement on Threepenny Opera.
Krystal Buckley who recently graduated this summer from the 1-year course, has been very busy working on the Crazy For You Tour with Caroline Flack, Kinky Boots, Aladdin and Annie as a contracted wig technician. She has ALSO been busy in the world of film (see above).
Trusha Desai has secured a freelance position at the Royal Opera House, a dream come true for Trusha – a graduate of ours who did the one year course and specialised in advanced hairThis job could not have gone to a more deserving graduate.
Hollie Williams has worked for a week on School Of Rock with Delamar tutor Wendy Topping.
Mia Laroque-Macbeth has started working at Sadlers Wells looking after the wigs for Rambert Ballet Company, she has applied tattoos to the Scottish National Ballet and worked at Sarah Weatherburn’s facial hair/ wigs studio producing pieces for the industry. Mia was very fortunate to work on Don Giovanni at the Peacock Theatre and Bugsy Malone with other Delamar graduate Maxine Tiara at the Wimbledon Theatre.
Heather Ross and Ella Burton have continued to work on very highly popular musical Wicked.
Jessica Bryson and Esme Sjostedt have started working in The Wig Store – a brilliant way to improve their wig skills and establish a regular income.
Alice Percival is now a swing on The Book Of Mormon – this is basically someone who covers absences, a fantastic way to keep your skills up and keep a foot-in the industry without committing to a long contract.
Caroline O’Connor is Head Of Department at the Royal Opera House.
Longtime Delamar graduate Julie Burnett is Head Of Wig Department of ‘Annie The Musical’ – she interviewed Krystal Buckley for her new role.
